The Apple Butter Markets, over at South Branch Park, only took place once a month this past summer and fall, but they were good, and they were fun, and they won the town an award.
It’s called the Maryland Pride-In-Place Award, and the Maryland Downtown Development Association gives them out for the “best downtown revitalization projects, programs, events and marketing in the State of Maryland.”
Sykesville won first place in the special events category for the Apple Butter Markets, beating out the City of Havre de Grace and Ocean City.
Main Street Manager, Ivy Wells, who masterminded the whole thing, said she was “very proud” when the town received the award. And of course, she’s hoping to keep the market going next year and make bigger and better things happen over on the south branch of the Patapsco.
